Hohokam Experience Summer Program 2012: A Historic Partnership

This year the Pueblo Grande Museum is partnering with the Rosson House Museum to bring you a full experience over time, from the prehistoric to the historic, in each of our summer programs. This four week summer program is for children ages 3 to 14.

Week 1 ~ July 10-13
Music Way Back When: Then and Now

Join Pueblo Grande and the Rosson House Museum for a joint summer program on Music! Participants will be introduced to music from prehistoric native peoples to urban 19th century pioneers and musicians today. Then, make your own instruments! We will make instruments from gourds, shells, string and rhythm instruments and finish with a jam session with various musicians.

This four-day summer program for ages 7-10 is a collaboration between Rosson House Museum and Pueblo Grande Museum. Taking place onsite at Pueblo Grande Museum, the program runs Tuesday through Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. Participants must bring their own lunch and snacks. Parent/Guardian must sign the child in and out each day. Pre-registration is required and spaces are filling up fast! Cost: $125/participant Register

Week 2 ~ July 17-20
Archaeology: Excavation to Storage

Ever wonder what an archaeologist does? An archaeologist studies people of the past. Participants will learn the techniques of excavation, how to process items for a museum’s collections, why conservation is important and so much more! Participants see the process through from digging artifacts out of the ground to becoming historians and learning what objects mean and why they are important. This program is perfect for any child who is interested in digging in the dirt and finding out why we know certain things about other cultures and our own!
